Propeller shaft removal

I am going to attempt to see how far I can get with this. I need to swap out casings on my 200 lower unit. Basically keeping all the same driveline and putting it into a donor housing. I have been able to remove propeller shaft holder. But now prop shaft is loose, but won't slide out. It has about 1" of play. Do I need to loosen vertical shaft to allow it to slide out or is there something I'm missing? The helm book doesn't really tell me how to do this....anyone????
Thanks!

I'll do what I can...anything to help anyone else with this. BTW I was trying to get a local certified mechanic to do it for me, but I kept getting the run around from him and he never shows up, so i decided to try myself.

Ok, I removed the shift shaft like Hondadude said and everything slid out in tact... (I think)..lol..I just just use the housing from this one and use all the gearing and shafts from my original lower unit. Apparently the prop shaft is slightly bent on the donor and the shaft length is 30" and I need 25". So here are a few pics of the donor take apart job.

I made a tool to remove lock nut for drive shaft. I'm guessing this was one of Honda's "special" tools.

Next I had to remove pinion nut and used pipe wrench on shaft carefully trying not to mar the exhaust housing.

I was able to pull drive shaft out, while holding pinion gear in place. Then I hear loose metal falling inside. It was the needle bearings coming out of place. The whole unit looks like its in really good shape, other than having a bent prop shaft.

The pinion gear had a number written on it as well as the anti-cavitation plate. So does it mean that someone changed out gears before?
