Ok so I have a 1989 mercury XR4 150 everything i see says that it should have a hose coming off the housing for the poppet valve. Mine has a plug, Did some models have plugs. I don't see anywhere that the other end of a hose could attach , if it did have one. Thanks

0C156926 is the serial number. The problem I am having is its not pumping water out the pee hole. And everything that I read on the forums and everything says that That housing is supposed to have a barb fitting with a hose on it going somewhere. And on my poppet valve housing it had a plug it looks factory it is copper with black paint in the center and i was just wondering if that was from the factory. I just ordered all the parts to rebuild the water pump and all the seals in the lower unit. Which should solve the water pumping hopefully I am not sure about that plug though.

Around here little mud dobbers crawl in the pee hole and plug it up. If you are not having overheat issues yes it is allways best to service the cooling system if you dont know how old the impeller is or the thermostats but the telltale could as simple as a bug crawled in and made a nest. You can pull the poppet apart and inspect the cooling circuit but in my opinion I would want to just replace the internals while its apart. See if the motor is holding the proper temp first.

You have the 40 amp rectifier mounted on divider plate and that motor does not use the feed off poppet valve...like posted above check that pee nozzle is not clogged..

Ok I disconnected all the joints and blew site through them and no obstructions were found. The parts shipped for let unit today from this site and i will let you know if that worked thanks to all for the help. Its good to know that that is factory.

Just take your time putting it together it is best to test it in a barrel of water half way up the leg if possible. If you use the muffs it pressurizes the system and you really dont know if the water pump is working good. One of those little oval horse troughs works good for the larger gearboxes. Just add a drain plug to empty the water when done flushing the motor.
