Piston to block clearnace for V-4 OMC

1996 112 HP OMC. I know when measuring piston to bore clearance you are supposed to measure at the skirt. Is there a limit to how much wear there can be just above the top ring land that I need to be concerned with?

Skirts all measure it .005-008 clearance from the bores. But the top of the pistons measure up to about.020 smaller.

Do I need to be concerned with this measurement? What should this clearance maximum be??

You measure the piston skirt itself not the wall clearance... are you rebuilding?

Those things do have a surprising amount of taper to them. But I don't think I've ever seen a spec for it.

On a new piston you would see about 0.010" clearance at the rings.-------If you have 0.020" the pistons are scrap.
