overheating evinrude looper

1989 120 looper. overheats at idle on muffs. Compressioin check is 120 on all cyls. Right bank is hot left is cool. removed thermostat. it was dry. Started engine on muffs with t stat out. got a small amount of what appeared to be exhaust out the t stat hole. removed head. Cant see any cracks or leaks in head gasket. I checked cylinder walls and heads visually. Are there any other places to look where exhaust could get to the water jacket?

Pump is new. pumps to port head ok.

I have the same problem in a 1976 Johson 85 hp. The head gasket is ok, new tstat, new water pump. Do you find the problem

Check the t-stat and t-stat diaphragm and make sure water valve is working correctly....
