"ok, i got a 21 wa for free, its an early 1970"s hull with an omc v6 Model # HUFM19L Serial # Jo137492 now, if i did the research right its 155/3.7L(225)V6 engine,
Now for the BIG problem
1. the kid was running the boat and it blew a freeze plug port side #2(middle cyl.right side)
2. i brought the boat home pulled the plugs and there is water in that same cyl. all the others LOOK okay.
Looking into swapping out the motor........another issue ITS AN OMC! thats gonna be a problem
the buick 225 V6 seems to be the same block heads etc. for a replacement(long Block)
looking for some help should i try to rebuild this block? do I even need to rebuild the block would it be a head gasket problem ( manifold and risers) or ...........a complete repower is in my future, or is the boat headed to the landfill
thanks,
Kevin

well there she is, I think she has great potential to be a nice boat once again
but with that being said if its a lost cause,...............its off to the glue factory"

looks like its worth repairing

looks like its worth repairing to me .I have the same motor and drive .i think they are a good set up. You wont know exactly where its leaking until you pull the head off . chances are its the block but they can be found. if you decide to scrap it ill buy some parts from you .i just saw a block on ebay for cheap $$ but i think it ended.nice looking hull i would fix the motor it will be cheaper than buying another setup.

"thank you Dave, my son and I

"thank you Dave, my son and I went to Fred Hall boat show Sunday, awsome boats !!! but lotsa money for a new one LOL I think im gonna fix her.after all she IS paid for.
So im still lokking for some guidance on replacment block, or maybe someone here in san diego that knows these motors"

"I got the same motor in a 20

"I got the same motor in a 20 foot Chris. I'd put in a new freeze plug, oil the hell outta that cylinder, disconnect the coil wire, spin it a few, re-hook coil wire and start it. It should be fine.
IF..the boat has been outside over the winter...DO CHECK it (engine) for CRACKS..UNDER the bottom of the heads, near the frost plug line. THATS where mine cracked. I fixed it with J-B Weld, and have got 2 seasons out of it.
How did water get in the cylinder, after blowing a freeze plug? Am I wrong, or should that not happen?"

"ok here is what ive learned s

"ok here is what ive learned so far, it may be a cracked block or a cracked head. Thats how the water got in, more than likely its a cracked head or a blown gasket on the port side. So some 2 stroke oil will go in the #2 just Like Scott D. said crank the sh!t out of her replace the plugs and fire it off, But the 1st things 1st compression test, 2nd oil it up 3#pull the heads ? or run it."

"If theres water in the cylind

"If theres water in the cylinder, you might have blown a head gasket.I wouldnt perform any compression tests until thats fixed.Tear it down in the boat. You'll know soon as you get the head off and inspect the gasket.Drain that cylinder and oil it in the meantime. That'll help keep out the rust. You could use fogging spray, I think."

"yeah ive heard some things ab

"yeah ive heard some things about electric shift, the drive seems to be okay, the kid said everything on outdrive worked just fine the problem was with the motor, what should I be looking out for ?"

"I just LOVE these posters who

"I just LOVE these posters who say " Oh Oh...an ELECTRIC SHIFT!!!" I've had ZERO problems with my 40 year old " Electric Shift".Pfffffft.
I've seen more problems listed here with NEWER OMC Drives.DO change the Intermediate Housing fluid, as well as the other fluids in the top and bottom of the drive, though. It looks like an oldie like mine. Whats the intermediate housing model number? It should be located on the right side, on a tag."

"Scott: I totally agree with Y

"Scott: I totally agree with You. I think I scrapped out more Cobra drives and old Merc's than the OMC Electric shifts of same age. The ones that went out were mainly due to engine failure and re-power. A bit of service like water pump and fresh oil, keep the idle rpm low and they are in my opinion one of the better drives ever made. Which other drives maneuvers like them? Just sad that parts are getting difficult to get."

"ok ive got the most everythin

"ok ive got the most everything stripped off the bloock, however, ive got about 4 bolts (intake manifold ) 6 nuts (risers) that are well rusted.........What is going to be the best way to get those out and off?? Soaking them in wd40 BTW overnite."

"<<ive got about 4 bol

"<<ive got about 4 bolts (intake manifold ) 6 nuts (risers) that are well rusted>>

Use mild to moderate heat (MAP Gas Torch, yellow cylinder on a regular torch head). Heat and quench (hit with cold water, or WD 40). The intake bolts shouldn't be a problem, rusted or not, they should move."

"ok update, got the manifold b

"ok update, got the manifold bolts out all but 1 left and its pretty jacked up,im gonaa leave it alone for tonite. I figure once I get the intake manifold off and break the bolts loose i will take the heads and and risers as an assy. then when i have some working room on the bench i can get to those nasty little nutz. I wouldve posted up pix of my progress but my kids ran the juice out of my digital camara i will post pix in the next day or 2
