omc seadrive, no fire at upper rpms

I picked up a 1.6 liter omc seadive and took it out for the first after putting a new power pack on one side to fix a no spark problem to 2 cyls. it would not get up on plane, and after getting back I put a spark tester on and it has good fire until it gets to around 2 to 3000 rpms then it looses spark. its on the same side the new power pack is on. not sure what to do next. thanks for any help.

Sounds like stator dropping out...test voltage on brn/brn-yell with DVA meter and see if voltage falls off.

Look at the wires to the trigger for bare or cracked wires. Sometimes a wire will short out at a certain spark advance position give the wires a close look.

model #16amphd. thanks kimcrwdr1 I have been a shade tree mechanic on cars all my life but new to outboards. do you think you can explain a little better how to do the test?

Go to cdieletronics.com. They have some good trouble shooting procedures. Where are you getting your parts from ??
