Old V6 Idle speed controller

Does anyone know if the idle speed controller on a 175 can kill the entire ignition system? I have the three screw style that bolts atop the port cylinder head. And what about the mercury tilt switch mounted just above the power packs, I don't remember how it functions, could it kill the ignition, in fact, is that its purpose? It's been too long since I've had to fool with one of these. I'm heading out with my DMT3000 and the dvi adapter to test the basics but wondered whether either of these could be messing with me. Thank you sir. Does the tilt switch work thru the black/yellow kill wire? I've disconnected the one on the outside pack and it didn't get me half my cylinders back. And of course I still don't know status of stator/trigger.
