Mercury Tracker, 1998, 9.9hpEL, 4 stroke, low oil pressure light is on at idle, light goes out at mid speed. Runs 2 or 3 minutes at mid speed and then stops. Pulled dipstick and oil gushes out. Spark plugs black not gray and wet so seem to be getting gas. Could bad or really bad rings be the problem?

Need to get a service manual on it as its either a Yammy or Tohatsu branded Mercury. Does oil smell like fuel? If compression is thought to be the issue need to perform a leakdown test

Drain oil into a glass jar.---Let sit and look for water in the oil.-----Classic example of why I will never need or own one for myself.----A properly tuned 2 stroke is best in my opinion.

If money is not an issue them that is the best path forward for you.
I already spent $500.00 on it already. New starter, fuel pump, diaphragm and spring in the carburetor, electric choke. I do not know how to overhaul a motor and I do not know where to take it. I am in Ashland, MS. Thank you for your reply.

Check the fuel pump (I know it’s new), if the diaphragm is torn, fuel will pass into the crankcase.

It seems that gasoline into the oil is a persistent / common problem on 4 strokes.-----Just picked up a like new 25 HP 4 stroke with gearbox problems.----Owner gave up trying to find a shop able to guarantee a repair job after the first gear replacement.----Getting repair work done on these modern marvelous motors will be an issue.----Buy a " new one " is the reply in most areas.
