No power to dash panel !

Hello, I have a 1994 Celebrity Status 21 Cuddy with a 350 Mercruiser. Latest problem has me baffled. Was installing the batteries and went to start motor , no power to the dash panel, gauges don't register. Thought it was the Blue Sea battery switch, replaced it, still no power.

Found a fuse behind dash it is intact, little breakers and dash are not popped. Cannot find voltage, batteries are charged and show 12 + volts.

I have a multimeter and know how to use it. Anybody have any input ? Might be a broken wire but so far I cant find it.

Any Celebrity owners out there ? Is there a circuit breaker somewhere that I cant see ? HELP!

And check that you're getting a good ground. Many mysterious electrical problems are caused by bad grounds.

Pardon me for saying this but those boats have really poor electrical systems, often made worse by previous owners. Hope that your problem is a simple one. Glass fuses!!! Jee ziz.

Thanks Doc, I have been unable to find a circuit breaker, there is a fuse behind the dash but it is intact. I cant start the engine with no power to the switch so I cant check voltage other than battery.

Thanks, yes for such a high end boat it has been a pain. I am going to continue to try to trace continuity , most marinas in my are are pretty useless with electrical problems.

Checked again, cannot see or feel any inline fuse except for the one behind the dash. And it is intact.

I hot wired the trim motor and was able to raise the lower unit using the trim button on the throttle.

I checked continuity with a meter from the large black ground to the engine block and got continuity.

Checked all connections and wires going to the new battery switch when switching from 1 - 2 etc and got good continuity.

Checked continuity between the large Black Ground and The Large Red Hot wire and did NOT get continuity. This is the direct problem

So I still dont have power to the key and instruments ?

Go to the alt output post, check for voltage, motor does not need to be running. Your looking for battery voltage. If no volts look at the starters main post for a square plastic block. This is a 90A fuse and also has the ships main power connected to it.
Blown fuse=no power to dash

Doc, Looked at the starter it does not have a fuse as pictured.

I have attached pics of what I have , that is either a big honking fuse or the starter solenoid ?

Dont see the fusable link so locate the 50 A circuit breaker, it has a red button. From there it goes thru the main harness plug at the motor and from there to the dash. Orange wire is the alt feed to the battery, red wire is the main ship power

Thanks Doc, Been out of town so couldnt reply. Found the circuit breaker ! Some genius designed it to fit under the air cleaner so it cant be seen !

So I have power back. Thanks to all that helped.

Happy Boating
