"Ok I checked that last night and thats only one of things I noticed . I aslo found that the bolt that holds the bracket or thing that the throttle cable on , the threads have been stripped out and it will not tight up completely. I started to use my tap and die and just rethread it but want ed to get more suggestions . may be this is why the throttle will not open up all the . Also the spring inside the lever does not pull the timer base thing all the way to down .making me feel that the loose bolt is t blame or the spring needs to bee replaced.what do you guys think?"

"I know the above post is somewhat old BUT I just wanted to state that I have never encountered one of those springs to be weak..... very unlikely that the spring is at fault.

Retapping to the original size probably wouldn't hold. Better to install a stainless steel heli coil, then use loctite on the bolt/stud threads."

"thanks Joe , Did that all ready . went to river Sat and engine ran better , even plained off but did not accelerate a fast as i thought it should with throttle wide open. . Was told that timer base may be sticking . the only way I can get it to the high speed knob is to push it by hand. what do you suggest."

"Possibly someone greased the timer base nylon retainer ring. This would collect dirt, causing it to stick. The cure would be to remove the flywheel, stator, and the timer base, then clean the timer base thoroughly.

Use grease only on the brass bearing surface of the timer base and on the related portion of the top main bearing housing. Use only oil on the nylon retainer ring.

The "L" clamps that retain that nylon ring may also be too tight. Upon reasembly, if any clamp causes the timer base to stick at any point, either bend the clamp up ever so slightly OR install a very thin and proper size washer under the clamp.

While you're at it, inspect the stator closely. If it should be cracked and/or oozing a substance out of it, dripping down on the timer base and powerhead..... replace it.
