Hello all!
I just purchased a 18 foot VIP Fish & Ski. It has a 150 hp Mercury XR4 Black Max. The rig has been sitting for 4 years. I've started with 3 new batteries, drained the fuel tank that was full (I have Mercury Fuel system cleaners #1 & #2 to use), Fuel lines are going to be replaced, I'll use muffs or a barrel of water when I try to start it. I will replace the water pump before I take it out. The only thing I've verified so far is that the power tilt & trim works very nicely. Any other thoughts on what my future attention should go to? Also, this is the first time I've ever dealt with an oil injected engine, anything to look for there?

Thanks for your time,

Clean or replace fuel filters, Compression test is in order.thermostats inspected & tested,Clean all electrical connections, battery, starter, solenoid, harnesses ETC.

I do have a harness question. There is a trim switch on the bottom of the engine case, it is inoperative. I did some tracing, it isn't hooked up to anything, I also seem to be having difficulty finding where it belongs. The outboard is a 1989 XR4 150 hp Black Max. I'll do some more searching around, it was late when I found the unplugged harness.

Any help is always appreciated.

Hey guys new to the forum did a search and ended up here. I have a 1995 mercury xr6 2.5 150hp. Engine runs great. Telltale is strong when idling but the faster I go the weaker it gets until it stops all together. If I slow down it comes back? Any ideas what to do?
