Shiming new gears. 40TLEOD 1995 Evinrude. how to shim new gears I have a repair manual but it does not say any thing about shiming.

in marineengine exploded view it show 5 different shims. How do i find witch shim to use if any. I went to a dealer they will not do the job they want to do the whole rebuild

There is a special tool for that. Find a dealer in your area and have them shim it for you.

I did they want the whole rebuild.

I suppose you could order the tool here at marineengine if you know the part number. That usually is given in the shop manual.
