New battery old boat

If it doesn't work out I am carrying a hatchet, a float and a life jacket. Hatchet is for the boat, float is for the new battery and life jacket is for me to get back to shore.

Guessing that you're having some engine difficulty? If it isn't running you're gonna need a paddle too if you're going to scuttle her since it will be pretty hard to get away from the ramp with a dead lump.

Believe it or not it runs. I have invited a few friends to go to the lake. If it breaks do you have any idea how fast they will have to paddle for me to ski?:)
I have changed a few hoses and added a new gas filter. I need to drag it to the lake to see if it will pee and keep the motor cool.

If you ran it without water going to the drive, you have probably melted you waterpump impeller. It only takes a couple of seconds. You may want to check that out before you go or it will overheat and the hatchet will come in handy.

I like the idea of having fun when boating. Actually, having fun in life is the best way to go, and stay in shallow water if things get bad, or head to shallow water if it starts to go bad.

Bruce.

Thanks everyone and capnlazy is correct. More than likely I have screwed the impeller up. I did run it for a few sec to see if it would even start (best I can tell the boat hasn't been ran since 2002). Once it started I shut it down but probably chewed the impeller up. I won't know till this weekend when I have time to fool with the boat. I was just happy to see it running, of course later that night when I had time to get on the Internet I saw the multiple listings talking about lack of water and chewing up the impeller. Just my luck! I need to replace the fuel filler hose and then drag it to the lake leaving it on the trailer and see if it will pee or not.

I took the boat to the lake just to see if it would pump water. After a few minutes running it on the trailer I decided to give it a try. It ran so good I stayed on the lake about 3 hours. It starts and runs as good as I could hope for. I guess OMC had / has a bad reputation but if it starts and runs I couldn't beat the price I paid for the boat.

Keep in mind that this is a "Stringer Drive"...... meaning that the engine provides all support for the stern drive.
Make sure that your stringers and engine mount connections are good and solid.

If you were to loose engine support, and if the engine were to shift on you, the transom sealing boot breaches, and you'll have an immediate source of water entering the hull. ..... enough to quickly sink a boat!

Many older stringer drive boats have sunken due to this very reason.
Use caution until you confirm.

Have fun in the mean time!
