Need help. Won't turn over

Hey everyone. I have a 99' sea ray sundeck 210. Mercruiser 5.0 in it. Boat has 500 hours on it and has been running well. 2 weeks ago I took it to Florida and it sat in the parking lot all week with the drain plug in and a bad float switch. Long story short it filled with water from all the rain. I drained it. I got it back to indiana checked the oil, it had water in it. The boat didn't run with the water. I'm guessing it had a gallon in it. I changed the oil. Tried to start it and the battery was dead( not really surprised, the water made a connection somewhere). So I charged the battery and got the engine to fire up and run for a few min. Everything seemed fine. Took the charger off and it wouldn't start, so I figured that battery was still low on charge or maybe shot. I kept the charger on it until the next day. Started right up ran for a few min again. Shut it off and started it with no charger and it started again. So I was going to take it out on the water in the subdivision. After the 10 min drive with no charger the boat didn't have enough juice to start so I tried jumping it with the truck. Turned over a few time but Wouldn't start. After a couple tries it stopped turning over. Now it just clicks somewhere at the motor. Sounds like the starter but I can't see it and nobody is home to try turning it while I am next to the engine. Any ideas!? Maybe the solenoid? Is that on the starter like on a car? I do know about engines but not boats, not a mechanic tho. I did try turning the bolt on he crankshaft but it just tightens and I'm afraid to go too much, I don't want to snap it off. Please left me know what you think of my situation. Thanks in advance!

if water got into the pan the starter was also underwater and with the battery still connected killed it.the battery cable is suspect

Starters often work for a short period of time (a day or two) after immersion. Eventually, the water bath causes the internals of the starter to rust and the insulation to fail. While water will immediately get into most starters when immersed, they do not drain dry when no longer underwater. Batteries also do no like to get filled (overfilled) with water. Solenoids also do not like baths either and will eventually fail.

Ok thx guys. I was able to get my arm down by the starter to jump the solenoid. I am getting power there because I'm getting a click like the starter wants to go but won't. I couldn't really see which terminals I was on but that's what I got. And also another terminal sounded like a lil motor, maybe like the solenoid spins but doesn't plunge. I'm assuming in hi should just replace both and be done with this. Are there any reset buttons that I need to find before I spend money on a starter?
