Looking at a boat that has a believed to be 1996 Johnson Fast Strike 115 Motor. it does not run. They are saying "No compression on the bottom left piston. Something came loose and scarred the top of the piston and cylinder wall. The scratches aren’t deep"

was this a good motor and Is this motor worth trying to save?

Thanks

Ask various dealerships, along with what you might hear on this site, what the average overhaul cost on a V4. Back in my last days at the workbench 1989/1990 era... it ran about $2000/$2500... and now? (sigh, cough, sneeze, phttttt!!). Hint... Back then, a mechanic lived quite well on $12.00 or so hourly. A Ford F150 Lariat went for about $12,000.

Other techs fill in today's average amount here $______

Most shops do not overhaul those outboards any more.-----Adds up to more than 1/2 of the cost of a new ,motor.---Fixing it yourself is an option.----Availability of parts may be a problem.
