"I've only been boating for 3 yrs and this is my first problem with the boat, i think i am doing well, The problem is that my mariner 75 (1996) will not rev past 2900 rpm no spluterring or spurting just a constant 2900 rpm, it was the first time in the water this yr, and i have changed the plugs and gas. Any ideas would be greatfully recieved, thanks."

Got me diggin in the books on this one. Any chance you could post the serial number.

At first glance your model (if a 96) doesn't appear to have a "guardian" system on-board which would restrict the rpm's, so have to look elsewhere.

JB is correct that it has both high and low speed windings on the stator. But additionally, during this model run, Merc also played around with ADI and CDM ignitions as well as their normal Thunderbolts.

So need to determine first exactly what we have here to figure what to troubleshoot...."
