Model Identification Help

I need help identifying the model and year of my drive. I believe it to be a 1974, it has a 190 OMC Engine. The boat is a (supposedly) 1974 Omega California, 19 ft. There is very little info on these boats available.

Anyway, I have been and will be doing some work on this drive and want to make sure i have the correct year and model. I have been looking through the manual and there are somethings that dont add up for me... one is the trim. Mine doesnt seem to have trim, no spring trim device at the front of the engine and no hydraulic trim either. I always run the boat in tilt full down position except for very briefly in shallow water to load on trailer or something.

The other thing is that if its a 74 i read somewhere that tru-course steering wasnt available til 76, but mine doesnt seem to have mechanical (no transom mnts, go straight into side of drive).

Some of the lube points (grease fittings) dont match up with what i see in manuals. I dont see a number stamped anywhere on the drive and there are no decals left.

Thanks for the help, pictures below:

You have a high profile mid 70's electric shift outdrive.

When you raise the drive look for the steering gear on the underside just to the side of the ball gear.

While under there see a drain plug for the intermediate?

Trim: before 1978, any models that offered Selectrim, offered it as an option.

Steer: 1973 was the first year of TruCourse steering via the double drum cable assembly (although the 1960's OMC/Evinrude/Johnson brand boats used something very similar), and it was optional until 1977.
1978 -1985 400 and 800 drives were the first to have trucourse steering as standard equipment.

the drive in the pics is low profile, not high profile

I raised it up found the steering gear there, and a grease fitting finally!!!! Yes there is a drain plug as well. There are some faint numbers that i am not 100% on, but the bigger set appears to be 908331 and then a smaller set that looks like 128752. the numbers are worn and faded as are my eyes.

the numbers on those outdrive tags were never referenced outside of the factory - factory literature for each model year "may" have had the number in it somewhere, but you would have to buy a lot of books and check each one. If you need to be 100% sure of what you have for some reason you'd have to disassemble the upper gearcase and count gear teeth.
I can't imagine why you would need to know unless buying a gear set.

Officially, your sterndrive unit was marketed by OMC as "The OMC Sterndrive".

More curiosity than need. I see refernces to stringer, 400, 800, cobra, etc and wanted to know which mine was and I had the feeling it was none of those. Also, the 1974 on the title has not seemed right. Based on replies to this post and also this url http://www.iboats.com/Omega_California/bp/20br1326 I'm leaning towards a 77 model.

i have another open thread for "reverse not working" that is resolved except a final leak test (where i ripped out the old wires that had the rubber around them to self seal) and as a result of fixing the reverse wire i find that i should also replace the o ring (just behind the propeller) in the lower. To order the parts i wanted to have as much info as possible to get the correct seal kit.
