I have 3 racor 500 filters.* Two of the filters provide fuel from the same tank to two seperare engines.* One engine is a 2 cyl Kubota the other is a 3 cyl Westerbeake.*
*
The Westerbeak application has just started creating a high suction pressure with engine cut out.* I have changed the 10micron*filter cartridge to no sucess.**When I open the racor to inspect the cartridge the fuel level is below the stand pipe supply hole.* The engine will run 1-2 hours after filter inspection then the cutout repeats.* I have inspected the tank hrough the 2" diameter leve gage port. No trash could be seen. I*drained the fuel and refilled through an external filter.* removed the ball check valve from the filter.**The problem is stiil present.*
*
The second application to the Kaboda engine from the same tank*has no problems.* The suction pipe location for the two applications is 6" apart.

I would appreciate any suggestions for the Westerbeake application.

By "high suction pressure" do you mean a vacuum? As measured by the racor gauge (or equivalent) installed at the filter?

Could be the MFg installed an anti-syphon valve at the top of the pickup tube. They are known to fail often and restrict (or stop) the flow of fuel. A visual inspection of the top of the pickup tube will confirm its existance.

You stated : "The suction pipe location for the two applications is 6" apart."

Are you saying that you have two different pick up tubes in your fuel tank? If so, then the pick up tube feeding the Westerbeake engine may be clogged at the pick up in the tank. Most of them have a small screen on the end of the pick up tube. Pull it out and clean it or remove it completely and rely on the Racor filter to capture any dirt.

Glad you found the problem.

I've heard of some folks that remove the screen on the pick up tube altogether, and rely on the external fuel-water seperator (i.e. Racor) to catch any of the junk.
