Midshaft fail on BF225

I know this an old problem..but had a couple questions before I spend the bigger dollars..
Have a pair of bf 225 on worldcat- bought it year ago-have done a fair amount of maintenance without problems..engines are year 2006. both midshaft bushings and extension cases failed-at some point- prob. before i even bought the boat.
Driveshaft is pitted on one and the other is ok.. Im replacing the extension cases on both and new bushings etc. bought a replacement driveshaft for the crapped out one- was told its a ton of work to pull these and shim them- one marina said to polish the shaft and just put in new bushing in case?? another marina said thats a bad idea and the work on this at least 7-8 hours labor...
There is play on the shaft with the bushing- can you just clean up the shaft as much as possible and reinstall without changing out? I will post pictures soon.

Samaya - no picture came through.

As an explanation, the mid-shaft bushing usually fails because it doesn't get proper water lubrication. The redesigned extension cases allow a lot more water to get onto that bushing. I'm not sure when Honda did the re-design, but I think it was sometime in 2007. Several years ago, Aristikat on this forum described the problem in detail and ended up getting the revised extension cases which had bigger holes for the water to get onto the bushing.

The purpose of the bushing is to dampen vibrations in the drive shaft and stabilize the driveshaft under extreme loading, such as a rapid hole shot or rapid deceleration. And, as Chris noted, there are some older 225's running around without the bushing. However, I would not be comfortable with that, especially with the 30" shaft, which you probably have on that World Cat.

Can't help on replacing the drive shaft, since I've never had to tackle that issue.

thanks you guys for the responses,, i have seen the Aristikat at the launch in the past two months.. i think his drives were clean and shiny still... i want to replace the ext. cases and bushings,,so that might mean i have to do the drive.. i plan to take to marina tuesday to get the owners thoughts.. i mainly take the kids tubing , so there is a whole lot of accels and decells. here are picts i cropped to reduce the mb. guess there is a limit..
