Mercury XR6 150 1998 powerheads

I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. There has to be another powerhead that will fit on the 1998 XR6 150. I really need some help here. I cant seem to get a solid answer from anyone. It should be easy to find another powerhead that will work besides the (884-9763A23) one that's on there. You can't tell me mercury only made one powerhead for each year and that others close in year won't bolt right up. Its a carb motor for goodness sake. SO PLEASE IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME IF ANOTHER POWERHEAD WILL FIT. LET ME KNOW???????????? I'm going crazy. I have looked at a few other power heads and they look to match up on the exhaust plate. Just need so really knowledgeable info.

Just a loaded powerhead without the electronics. There has to be other years that will work. right?

Any 1992-2004 2.5L 150/175 will fit..just make sure it has horizontal reed setup as if vertical its a 2.4 Xr4

Thank you! I knew there were other years just didn't want to buy it then didn't work and have to re-sell it. I been doing my reading and understand what you mean about the reeds set up. Thanks again you just made my life a lot easier.

one more question. in those years you gave me there wont have to be any mods done right? just bolt up and put my electronics on and its good?

As long as its a 2.5 and front crankcase half is correct it all bolt on and go.

Front crankcase meaning horizontal for the reeds?
