Mercury water pressure issue

I have a 1986 150 HP Mercury outboard on a ranger bass boat purchased used last year. Recently, I have had the temperature gauge registering in the middle to 3/4 hot with the buzzer going off. I've noticed the water pressure does not get above 4 or 5 psi even at 5000 RPMs or higher.

I had a new water impeller put in and that only raised the psi to maybe 6. Could someone point me in the right direction as to what to do next?

Thanks.

The pressure monitor source I assume is the brass ⅛" pipe plug port on the powerhead water jacket cover. That means that your powerhead isn't getting adequate water flow since you said the temperature went up also, not down like would be the case if your stats both froze open.....surely a rare event.

I would think you picked up some foreign matter clogging your intakes, or you have been operating in salt water and have a corrosion buildup preceding the water pump, or a piece of the previous impeller lodged in your pump exhaust tube to the powerhead.
