I beleave that makes it a 68. Am I right? I need to know what spark plugs it takes and where to get them. I just picked it up to day for $75. I am very new to this and am going to have a lot of questions. Is The gas ratio 50 to 1? It has been sitting for 9 years so I know I have a lot of work to do. I also need a prop for it. Thank you.
 
Run a compression test first before spending any $$$$ on it as it may be a parts motor. Compression should be 110+ to run properly...
 
I was told compression was good and it ran 9 yrars ago. I am trusting in the man I bought it from but there are no spark plugs and he was old and could not remember what it took.aftdr I get plugs I will do my own test.
 
Man, I sure hope he had the plug holes covered up. A motor setting for 9 years, you could imagine what would get into there.............

Is the motor freed, can you spin it by hand??? Sounds like it would have dried up and rusted in there. Compression test 9 years ago tells us nothing.
 
Install a new impeller before launching.-----------New impeller will be in stock at any GOOD boat repair shop !
 
Very good!! According to my sources that motor is actually a '69 model.


  • Serial numbers 2503991 thru 2803561 were 1969 models.

The spark plug that I am getting for that motor is a: CHA811 (L82C)
or: CHA827 (L76V)

The L76v champion plug will burn cooler. If you do a lot of idling go with the hotter plug which is the L82C. I doubt you will do much trolling with that engine so Id certainly go with the colder plug if that were the case.
 
Better add a water pump impeller and gaskets to that order like Racer said. Sitting for 9 years you can guarantee that impeller will have no more spring action and have a weak flow.

If I were you I would also order the 2 fuel pump kits and 4 carb kits as well. Then I would change out all the fuel lines. If the compression is good on this motor and you trust the previous owner than this motor should be worth the $ and effort.

I understand if you are just putting plugs in to see if the motor fires and is worth the energy. If that's the case make sure it is peeing on the hose and firing on all cylinders after you start it up. At that point we can go further and get this thing reliable enough to take out onto the water.

...and it belonged to a lil old lady who only got in on plane once every weekend.... Don't spend a dime on this motor till you see results for yourself.
