Mercury 225 efi problem

2000 Mercury 225 efi starts, idles, revs, and goes into forward and reverse fine on muffs. Took it to the water to test it out and started and idles great. Put it in gear to get on plane and it will not get over 2000 rpm or get on plane. The only beep I'm getting, is the initial single beep when turning on ignition. This is a boat I'm looking to purchase. I do not know compression numbers. Any info on problem or things to check is greatly appreciated

Best to walk away or have seller agree to repair it.
