Question!

Found a boat with a Mercury 150HP 4 cylinder with only 6.5Hr. I can only assume it sat for almost its whole life but does run. I haven't seen the boat in person yet but the boat is extremely clean from video and pictures "looks like it was never used". Looks like it was kept in a storage unit.

My question is, is a motor sitting for this long still good? iv'e been getting some mixed answers on this and want to see what more people think. Some say to stay away and others say its fine.

Note* If i go to buy the boat it will have a full inspection of the entire boat, including engine, compression, and more from a certified boat mechanic before purchase.

150 HP out of a stock 4 cylinder??????????????? The largest 4 cylinder production engine I ever saw was a 1973 Evinrude 135. Mercury makes a 135 too but its a V6 like its 150 hp engines.

The Merc 4 stoke 150 is a 4 cylinder 3L. I would suggest that you hire a dealer/technician with diagnostic tester check the engine for codes. send a oil sample out for acidity testing, perform a on the water test to ensure fuel systems working and if a saltwater engine I myself would be leery of it unless I could steal it and take a chance

Picked up a " for parts / repair " Yamaha 150 HP and yes it is a 4 cylinder.-----Hope it is repairable and not a corroded mess.

Scuse me for my limited knowledge. I didn't even consider 4 strokers. Being a 2 stroker all my boating life, I never thought about 4 stroker 4 cylinders.
