Merc 75hp Water Tube Guide

I have a 1986 Merc 75hp and will be attempting to re install the lower unit. I lost or it got thrown out mistakenly the water tube guide. Do I really need this or will I be able to get it lined up with the all the other goodies. Side note. I ordered a new impeller Sierra 3017 supposed to be replacement. It goes down all right in the bottom of drive shaft which flares out by pump housing, will not slide down further. Oh well, just put the original back in for now....it looked fine.

Your must have a 3 cylinder as the 3017 impeller is for a 4 cylinder.

No , 1986 75hp is a 4 cyclinder. The shaft flares a bit just before the water pump key. Also I probably can make a tube guide with a 4 inch piece of pvc pipe.
