Merc 40 electric starter conversion

Hi Guys, hoping to get some info here - couldn't really find anything on the net

I have a 50hp Merc, guessing its a mid 80's model with an electric starter. Would it possible to use the electric starter system (starter, flywheel, electrics etc.) on a 1996 Merc 40hp that is currently only pull start?

Same motor just different cowl and brackets..should only have to swap flywheel and mount starter

Another question, the 40hp is round about 1996, did Mercury only make 15" and 20" shafts or did they also make 17.5" shafts?

15" and 20" shafts ​
