Merc 110 very stiff twist throttle

Hello:

I recently had my (1974?) Kiekhafer/Mercury 110 overhauled by a great tech that is close to my home but far from my lake. Starts and runs fine, but the twist throttle is so stiff, I have to use both hands to twist it. Wasn't like that before.

What/where is the correct place to adjust the tension for this? I'm no expert on motors but capable of simple to moderate-complexity adjustments.

Thanks for any advice.

P.S. Saturday morning I came down to the dock to find my boat upside-down with the Merc sitting on the lake bottom! I managed to haul it out, get it dried out and running again in a couple hours. If anyone needs help reviving a drowned Merc, I'll gladly give some advice!

Some of those have a knob at the end to adjust tension. I suspect yours is just partly frozen up, however. If so, the arm needs to be removed and serviced.

And some have a tension control knob on the side of the tiller arm. regardless, if you back off the tension control and the problem persists, before you try removing the tiller arm ( a royal pain), remove the throttle and shift cables from the throttle and shift linkages, and try getting some penetrating fluid in the cables.

Thanks to everyone for the tips. I can't try anything out until next time I'm at the lake but I'm sure I'll get it straightened out.
