Melting prop hubs??

Hello all and thanks for and help

recently I took my boat out and spun a prop. pulled the prop and put on my spare went about 300yards and spun that one. called a buddy and had him bring me another one and spun it on the way back to the dock. the first to were pressed in hubs the 3rd was a replaceable hub that melted it completely round. boat dealer said I needed a new lower unit. I had them install one. Took it out today and the same thing happened. Dealer has never seen this before Any Ideas?

It's an outboard.

What is the serial number?

Sounds like the exhaust liner is plugged up. No water passing through the lower to cool the prop. Time to pull the power head.

thanks for all the info. So I have removed the lower unit to do a few of the tests.
1.removed the backwash plug hooked up the hose and ran water threw it.seemed to have good flow out the bottom.
2. at each head I took off one end of the hoses and ran water threw both ok to good water flow.
3. checked impeller it is new.

I think my next step might be to pull the thermostat to check for build up?
Is there anything else I can check? Before pulling the power head?

Again thanks for all the help

And can anyone tell me where the exhaust cover is?

I've seen that plastic water pump extension (to ease putting the LU back up) melted when water flow was restricted, so that might explain the melted hubs.

99% sure your exhaust liner is clogged. The correct way to repair this is to pull the power head and the exhaust adapter and replace the exhaust liner with the updated one.

Or you can look up on line, the quick fix of drilling holes in your exhaust housing to help with water flow to the prop hub.

ok guys sorry this is taking so long work has been a killer lately.

So tonight I pulled the poppet nothing there. so I put it in a bucket of water and found water coming out of odd places. So I don't know if this means something is plugged or if is normal. one small hole on each side of the lower unit right under the cavitation plate. and where the tilt and trim attached to the lower part of the motor there is a 1/4" size hole under the cover plate both sides. And the square hole above where the anoids?? bolt on. Is this normal?

Here are some pics if the up load works

It's possible the water tube going from the LU to the power head is not connected (or ?)

Question: Does water flow out the prop when running on the muffs?

Jeff

ok So I took it to the shop they had it about a week and a half they replaced the water pump impeller. Pulled the power head and checked the exhaust liner (found nothing) changed the puck up tube and something else. He said every looks good but there is still very little water coming out of the exhaust hub. He did question the hole above the anodes in the lower unit. He has seen some motors with a plate to cover up the hole and some that didn't have anything. There is exhaust and water coming out of it. He put a temp plate on it to cover the hole and a good bit of water started to come out of the hub. Should this motor have a plate between the drive shaft housing and the lower unit to cover this up? or will this restrict my exhaust output and mess something up? you can see the water blowing out of the hole in the first pic.
