Hi.

I have done ignition timing 0[SUP]o [/SUP]@Idle and 23[SUP]o [/SUP]@WOT. I used timing light and cranked motor to see timing. Cranking speed 540rpm.
How come timing is something much more advanced when motor is actually running?
Shouldn't I see same same timing when cranking or running?

At full throttle the timing is 23 degrees BTDC--------Idle spark timing does not matter.------Pick-up timing is the point where throttle plates open.------Make no adjustments if you are unsure !!

Right! This is not a car engine. Just time it at WOT. I remove the carb linkage to allow full throttle and full spark advance (about 3,000 rpm).

I suppose you are not well versed with timing on your outboard motor.-----Yes you would see the same timing while cranking in the idle position.-----Motor running or not.-----And you would see the same timing with linkages at full throttle and motor running at full throttle or cranking.-----Just the way it is , accept it / learn about it.----Sorry if you are offended by this reply.

Thanks for answer.
The point is that I'm not seeing same timing. I double checked with another timing light.
Max spark adjusted to 23 degrees cranking and when running I'm seeing .454 mark so it's way early. Thats the problem.
What I do not know is what faulty component can cause that..

Solved.
Switch box failure.
DVA from green wires was not increasing in two cylinders. Causing misfire and also set ignition way early.
DVA was 200V@idle and dropped 190V when accelerating.
Only one cylinder DVA was increasing from 200V@idle to 280V and in that point motor was misfiring badly and more rpm couldn't be accelerated.

Again cheapo switch box causing waste of time and money. That failed switch box was new..

Here it is. No any marks on it.
