Mariner 100 HP Tilt Trim problem

I have a 100 HP Mariner In Line 4 cylinder. Not sure, but I think it is a 1989, or there about. It has oil injection, and the orange decals. When I try to tilt it down, all I hear is the solenoid clicking, but absolutely nothing else happens. I use to have a Mercruiser that would do this, and it was the brushes every time. Not sure what the problem here is, but I do not want to just start tearing it apart. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If its the early style(I) trim it has 3 wires and 2 solenoids, if 2 solenoids jump the big post across on the green wire, if it works its a bad solenoid as its not making contact internally.

Thanks. I will check it. I am not sure if it has 2 solenoids or not. I use to work on these boats all the time, but that was over 10 years ago. :)

I did the wire jump thing. Still clicks, with no movement. I am back to it being the motor brushes or possibly the pump froze up, but suspect the motor brushes. So, I start removing the 3 SS bolts on each side, and, as I suspected would happen, 3 came out easy and 3 twisted off. I worked them back and forth, using Liquid Wrench, but to no avail. And, as a couple of them broke off with part of the bolt sticking through the transom bracket, now I have to lossen the transomn bracket, to get the unit out. I think I can do just one side and get it out. I am more worried about drilling the old bolts out. That was some awefully soft stainless steel that they used for this.

Why in the world doesn't the motor manufactures use anti-seize on these types of applications? I guess that would make too much sense.

Turned out it was the brushes sticking in the motor, after I finally got it off. I use to run into this all the time, when I was working on outboards. This turned into a chore, getting the trim/tilt unit off, but once I did, it was the brushes, as I suspected. If you have the Type I 3 ram unit, be careful of the fill housing that extends through the port transom bracket. This housing is made of hard plastic, and is no longer available.
