MAP sensor 2

Can anyone assist me ? Just got the engine ready for summer. It went into the garage for winter about 5 months ago. I changed the plugs, changed the oil filter/fuel filter and fresh engine oil. Started her up and got the dreaded check engine light. The code is showing MAP sensor 2 and the book says "this condition will be caused by disconnected, kinked or clogged MAP sensor hose or clogged inlet manifold gas filter". I have looked at the MAP sensor...the hose doesn't look kinked, but am I right that I would have to take thje manifold off to get at the inlet manifold gas filter ? Happy to do that if I have to, but it looks complicated. I put the boat in the water, and the engine runs very rough and will not go above 3,000 rpm which I guess is because the fuel/air mixture is messed up. Engine is a Johnson/Evinrude 50hp 2003 model J50PL4ST any help would be muich appreciated !
 
Hey Dick.....long time......

Can you blow or suck thru that gas filter? Rig up some kind of extension hose to try it.
I would also check out the wiring. Your manual gives voltages that should be present on the three pins of the MAP sensor.
Follow the wiring diagrams and try to get on the connector at the ECM. Maybe just ohm it out with the connectors unplugged will do the trick.

That code is very straight forward to debug. Either the air plumbing to the map sensor, the wiring, or the map sensor itself.

Yes...long time...at least the diagnostics work fine now ! Took the MAP sensor off, but really hard to get to blow or suck down the tube as it has no spare length and is tucked away inside the manifold. Looked at placing the meter o it, but it only gives me a voltage to check at D7 on the MAP sensor and says it should be 0.20 to 4.53 V with ignition switch on. Culdn;t figure out where 7 was so thought should probably get the manifold off and investigate the hose and the filter. Will psyche myself up to do just that and see what happens ...hopefully later this week ! If you have any resistance readings over which contacts, that would be very useful. Cheers and thanks....

Hi again....looks like problem solved. I forgot to connect one of the spark plugs up (no wonder it was running a bit rough). All connected and running sweet again with no fault codes. Duh...not a good day !
 
So one plug wire off....caused a MAP Sensor code.....huh. Great software there.

Good to know you are running again. Just in time for your Spring. TTY later.
 
There is only one MAP on that engine
