Facts for you.---Post your model #-----Certain lower units will fit with a shift rod swap.------Older lower units will fit by changing the driveshaft and shift rod.-----I believe there is a fundamental design flaw in the newer " batwing " gearcases.----And a brand new after market SEI unit is also an economical option for you.
1995 and newer 60 degree carbureted V-4 units will bolt right on.---90 and 115 HP model Johnson / Evinrude are the same.
Ah, good catch. I saw the '95 in your reply and completely missed that the OP's engine is a 2000 V4.The 2000 model 90 HP is a totally different powerhead that the 88 HP V-4 crossflow.----The 88 SPL is a 90 degree V-4 crossflow engine.

An SEI unit may be a good option.
This guy has used units as well. I don't know much about the business but I know my local shop will direct folks here when the customer is trying to find used or hard to find parts.
