Does anyone have a chart for interchangeable lower units? Does motor s# give the answer? Mercury 200 EFI 1998 Serial# 0G725287

There is no chart that I am aware of - have to check part numbers of potential donor against your particular model.

The "serial" number is not a serial number at all, just a production number. The next motor off the line got the next number up. Unlike Yami or OMC/BRP there is "zero" data encoded in a Merc number - no year, no model, no horsepower - nada..

For your model, some 150's plus all the 175/200/225 horse models built between 1995 and 2002 (or 3 maybe) shared a lower unit/gear case - so 175 and 200, 150 XR6, 150 XRI, 175 XRI, 200 XRI, 200 and 225 Promax and Super Magnums should all fit.

Additionally, the case off of similar year 135/150's will fit but the gears are different (2.00:1 vice 1.87:1) - so they would work but you would require a different prop (the lower gears can handle more pitch).

You need a 1:87:1 gear ratio for a 200 and the serial number will give you information such as country and year manufactured.... also here is a chart that tells all you need on gear ratios, models, rpm and displacement. Any 1:87:1 ratio from 1987-2005 will interchange from a 2.4 or 2.5 motor...
