Lower Unit help

I have a mariner 150hp with a bad lower unit, how do go about making sure another used lower unit will fit my motor? Do I only need to measure the shaft? I found a good deal on a 140hp lower unit but am not sure how to know if it will fit.

Do a part number search (using this site). If the driveshaft and lower unit gear case has the same part numbers, you're okay.

Yes as a 20" will measure right at 23" from mounting surface to top of splines ans a long shaft(25") will measure almost 28".....

Sorry but wont fit as for Inline motor, you need a V-6 motor gearcase with 2:1 gear ratio....
