Limp mode

Hi all, I have a Honda 150 efi outboard. Took it out this morning and it ran fine for the first little bit then started chugging a little bit. I did some trolling and when I tried to head back the the dock I couldn’t get the Rpm’s up enough to get onto plane. Shut it off and fired right back up no problem but same issue couldn’t get the Rpm’s up in gear. When I disengage the forward gear it rev’d up and sounded good but it’s definitely in limp mode… any thoughts? Thanks in advance!!

If it's like a 225, it goes into limp mode for 2 reasons - 1. Overheat. If not resolved within 20 seconds, engine shuts down. 2. Low oil pressure, engine will keep running at 1800 rpm or less. Are you sure you are in limp mode? What are your rpm's?

it never shut down… no lights no lights… no power. Almost seems like it’s starving for fuel but like I said when the forward gear was not engaged it revd fine

3000 rpm is NOT limp mode. There are a huge number of faults that could cause that - clogged vent to gas tank, clogged pick up tube in the gas tank, fuel line restriction, clogged HP fuel filter, and on and on.

First, check or replace HP fuel filter. Look for any restrictions on the fuel line, especially where it enters the engine compartment. If you have an external fuel/water separator, drain it and check and tighten the fuel line connections.

I'm not that familiar with the BF 150, so hopefully others will jump in.
