Left the key on overnight!

Hi All,
New to this forum, so wanted to start by saying HI.
I left my key in the on position overnight, next day went to start the motor and it would not start. first thought was battery drained so put it on the charger. Once charged, still would not start. Also would not trim up or down. Since this is a 1999 75 horse Merc that had been sitting before I got it, I figured I fried the starter solenoid switch and have ordered a new one. Will install and see if that was the issue.

My question is about the trim up and down, is this related to the starter solenoid as well?

I see that wires do pass through it and am hoping that is the issue since I just replaced the relays.
Any info would be helpful.
Thanks,
W

Leaving the key on should not hurt anything. Unless you have something that is keyswitch activated it should not have even hurt the battery It's not a battery ignition. Check the battery connections at the starter solenoid, I believe the trim system gets the 12 volt feed from the hot side of the solenoid.

Thanks for the input guys and or gals.
I replaced the solenoid and all is good, trims up and down and starts back up.
things that made me think it was that issue and not the answers from above:
checked the fuse, it was still good, but a great place to start for sure.
Knew it wasn't the battery because when I jumped the trim wires to the motor it worked. plus as I had said I charged the battery and all other lights worked.
I am thinking that with its age and the fact that the key was on for a long time, I think the solenoid was charged and made contact until it burned out...
Not sure about that but am happy that its back up and running.
