Large motor trolling

I have a 2010 Merc 75 4S EFI on a 16' Lund and use my I-Pilot often for trolling ( 1.5-2 mph ). Whats the thought on using the 75 for this type of extended trolling? The t motor batteries only lasts long.
 
Install a trolling plate and go for it, I have a customer with a 225 Yammy HPDI and trolls all the time with it...
 
Any OB with a thermostat can be used for trolling. Look out if using a LARGE hp OB for this if it lacks a t-stat; that wrecked the bores of many Merc 850s.

I know of no big HP motors that dont have a t-stat and inlne motors have been used for trolling for years, They are usually damaged from weak impeller and lack of cooling not from lack of t-stat or trolling.I have a older customer with a 1973 Bomber with 50 Merc that has maybe a 2000+hourd trolling as that all he does 6 days a week

Really? No NEWER ones,for most pre-90s motors lacked a t-stat.

That did huge damage to Merc 850s--that's why I noted it. Their huge impeller--the same as that used in 150 hp sixes--over cooled the 850s at idling speed, leading to scuffing of the bores.
