Johnson won't run without pushing the choke in

i have a Johnson 200 model J200TXEOC that won't run with pushing the key switch in to choke the engine. i have rebuilt the carbs and installed new gaskets. how many turns is the idle mixture crew supposed to be turned out. any help would be great thanks.

the boat sat for about three years. when i first tried to start it it had no spark. i checked the power pack and stator and fount the stator was bad. when i replaced it it started but ran really bad. so i checked to see if all cylinders had spark and they did. i checked compression on a 6 cylinders and all read 90. so i rebuilt the carbs and started the engine and it runs smooth but wont stay running with out constant priming. i checked the fuel pump and it pumps strong. spark will jump a 7/16 gap on my tester.

Gotta be carbs yet as Mr. Scott suggested. Could it be the jets are not completely opened up to their exact specific size? They my be open but not to correct size. I love to use CRC Throttle body cleaner and run through a welding tip cleaner with assorted sizes....get them at your welding shop or a good hardware store. A drill bit is too hard and may spoil your jets.

engine still runs the same and did notice that the three carbs on the left looking at the engine when sprayed with starting fluid while running the engine does not respond. when the right carbs are sprayed the engine stays running as long as i spray the carbs but when i switch to the other carbs the engine dies. now that has me scratching my head.

Don't do that too many times.
By running the motor on starting fluid, you are depriving it of lubrication and you will trash the pistons and cylinder walls.
A better idea would be to have a 50:1 mix of fuel/oil in a spray bottle to do testing like that.
Anyhow, the carbs that respond to the spraying are the ones that are not getting fuel by the sounds of it.

I believe when looking at those carburetors from on board they cross over.----Ones on the left operate cylinders on the right.----Looked into possible issues with crankcase compression ?----Looked into issues with the " shift interrupt " switch ?
