I HAVE A 1999 175HP JOHNSON OUTBOARD IM HAVEING TROUBLE WHEN I IDLE IT WANTS TO DIE OUT IF I GIVE IT GAS IN NEUTRAL IT SMOKES ALOT WHEN I GET READY TO TAKE OFF IT BOGGS OUT IF I TAKE THROTTLE AND GO DOWN VERY SLOW SOMETIMES IT WILL GO ONCE IM GOING IT RUNS FINE I SEE A SOME OIL COMING OUT OF CARBS I TOOK IT IN THAY SAID IT WAS THE VRO PUMP I WANT TO BUY A NEW ONE DO YOU THINK THIS IS THE PROBLEM THEY ALSO SAID I NEED TO REBUILD CARB BECAUSE OF EXESS OIL IN CARBS DO YOU THINK THIS IS NESSASERY IT IS VERY EXPENSIVETO REBUILD CARBS

"it does sound like a bad VRO pump.It prob has'nt been replaced in many yrs.It never hurts to clean/rebuild the carbs either if it has not been done in many yrs,but,..i would'nt do it just because it had a lil excess oil in them,..could be flushed!Your fuel system should def be checked also for restrictions,and air leaks."

"Mike, Before you spend for the VRO Pump, make sure the gasoline line does not have any restrictions. Restrictions can cause an over oiling situation. Also change the water seperator, if you have one."
