Johnson GT 175 Dye TEST

Likely it is.----Perhaps the owner is still in denial and hoping for a miracle.----You can never tell.-----Compression numbers indicated that cylinder head needed to come off.----But no reply from greghanson on that !

I wanted to do a compression test on this engine (just for fun) took the spark plugs out of all 6 cylinders and noticed a little bit of water coming out of number 6 so I turned the engine over and a lot of water sprayed out of the cylinder. Removed the head and the gasket was destroyed. I called the owner and he requested we do a dye test or magna flux to check for cracks.i was trying to post a video but couldn’t get it to upload.

Got a pic of this "blown" gasket??? The big bore 3.625 motor had extremely thin sleeves and if overheated the cylinder would tweek and sometimes separate from aluminum liner casting. This would cause gasket to fail and will cause repeated failures. These motor to live must have impeller changed every 2 years as they need all the volume of water supplied by impeller..

If water " sprayed out of a cylinder " ---Then there is a good chance water got into the bearings in the crankcase !!----That is not good.-----I say the motor needs more than a band aid.-----Tear it down and inspect this thing !
