Johnson 9.5 hp mystery ports

The parts motor on the right (attached pic) is an early model. The later model on the left (1968) has two ports that the early one does not have. The PO connected them with the yellow hose. Does anyone know what they are? Should they be open or connected?

I thought I knew those motors inside and out, backwards and forward. But have to admit I've forgotten about that hose. Hey, it's been 50 years. I'll stick my neck out and say that it is part of the crankcase puddle drain system and should be connected as shown. Hope nobody chops my head off.

Ha, Gator....I think your right. They don't all have these ports, of course.....but I've seen that "jumper hose" ..... personally I don't worry too much about that type of hose if used for this purpose. It's a PVC product called tygon, not my greatest love. Ethanol will eventually destroy it too, but then ethanol doesn't belong in your 9.5....or for me...ANY motor.
