johnson 88spl rebuild carbon

Heys guys questions..during the double oil breakin period on a fresh rebuild i had to split my crankcase again because of a leak. Got that fixed. Also had the bypass covers off i noticed carbon building up on the top of the pistons on the exsaulst side . is this normal during the break in period. . I got 4hrs run time on it..running ql77cj4 champion plugs. Thank for any insight w.t.

Black stuff on top of pistons is normal.----I would not worry about it either !

Sounds normal without picture.... but you did service t-stats and pop-offs??

Yes sir new thermostat and pop offs. Crabs rebuild. Mid section redone. Hard to get pitcher
Only got a little gap to see in with bypass cover off. When i broke it down the 2nd time i didn't pull the heads.. just split case to reseal. Thanks fastbullet. . Iam the person had post on iboats a couple of weeks ago about crankcase leaking and using 518. U help me out.. i tried to get on iboats today.. its not working . Thanks for your help again w.t.
