Johnson 70 hp and evinrude 55 hp midsection

Can anyone tell me if a 69 55 hp mid section will work with a 77 70 hp power head

It will bolt up but you will need to use the 55 lower unit as it has no place for a shift shaft...

That's what I needed to know. I have a outboard jet lower unit and wanted the short shaft mid section now I can order the drive shaft. Thanks for the info. One more thing the 55 mid section has 2 water tubes for the water pump but I have the water pump off the 55 can I use it or can I plug 1 of them off.

You will need a late model adapter plate to this as its single feed...

Thank you again. I'm new to johnson/evinrude are you talking about the thick plate between the power head and the mid section? If so will I have to find a short shaft late model adapter plate? Both my motors are complete the 55 hp is short shaft and the 70 is long shaft. Can I change the exhaust on the 70 hp long shaft adapter plate to the short shaft?

Yes thats the adapter plate and use the 70's and match the length from the 55hp
