I have a 50 HP Johnson not sure of year,as the decal is smeared showing those specs. This the cover, year ????

It will start and run, but then die, seems to keep running if you pump bulb,,,, the fuel filter never gets more than 1/3 full,, [after pumping bulb ] then you can watch it drain, then motor quits.
This just happened suddenly on the river, I was thinking the VRO needed rebuilt, the VRO has already had the oil pump disabled, so it is just a fuel only pump now, I assume it operates on an engine vacuum system, so I guess a look at all those hoses is the first thing to do,,,,perhaps save $150,,,,,,,,as far as the seal kit,,,,,,,,,,, how many different flavors of kits are there,,,, or do all VRO-s take the same kit ?

If you are lucky, and I think you will be, there should be a mounting location for the old style "house shaped" fuel pump.
It is much cheaper than a new VRO pump.
The mounting location will be directly to the rear of the starter, on the block. You will see three holes, two in the sides should be open ready for screw fasteners,
the one in the center will have a plug.

If you choose to fit the old style pump, you remove the VRO, plug it's pulse port in the block, remove the previously mentioned plug at the new mounting location, install new pump,
plumb gas to it, and last but certainly not least, MIX YOUR FUEL 50:1 WITH TCW3 OIL!!!!!!!

Looking thru the older models' (pre-VRO) parts lists helps select the correct fuel pump. I don't have the number, maybe someone else will.
