Hi everybody, I'm trying to drop the lower unit on my Honda BF 100 SA but having no luck disconnecting the shift shaft to drop the unit. There is no disconnection anywhere except in the top of engine off the shifting control arm.. Ive even disconnected the carter pin and freed the shift shaft from the top,but it still won't let the lower unit drop down because it won't slide pass the shift shaft bushing and seal unit. The only other way to make it pass is to try and take off the shifter shaft upper link to make the shaft passable, does anybody know what I'm rambling about, that can help me,please !

YA, YA,YA------You need to remove 2 screws at the upper mounts. then 4 screws to drop the entire assembly.----Then count turns / measure the coupling on top of the shift rod.-------Then it all comes apart.----Done it that way a few times.

Yes, you have to unscrew and remove the upper shift shaft connector so that the shaft can slide out. You can either count the turns and put it back exactly where it was or you can make the adjustment when you go back together by getting a free pin fit in neutral if you've already lost track. No biggie.

Thanks a lot for the information,it's been driving me crazy...I thought I had the problem solve when I disconnected at the top,but had no idea the upper link had to be unscrewed to slide pass the bushing and seal unit. They want $275 dollars at the local Honda dealer to the changing of the impeller, valve adj,oil change, fuel filter it's now sounding like that's not too outrageous.Ive looked on YouTube at other impeller changes that were very simple for people like me,but had no idea this little Honda was so different..thanks again my friend, will give it a try, can't afford to have done..

Thanks... John

Thanks everybody, got the unit lowered and the impeller changed, went smoothly and did'nt take too long...Sure glad I join this site for good information...John

Glad to hear you got it done. And, yes, that was a reasonable quote from your local shop to do what you listed. Now you know it's a bit involved but not all that bad and you also know that your dealers repair department seems to be an honest one and possibly a good source for help if you ever need it in the future.
WIN, WIN!
