Need some ignition help.
Yr. 2000 Johnson Ocean Pro 200 HP Model J200PXSSC
Motor rough idling and giving only 4500 RPM WOT
Diagnosed problem as no spark on top starboard cylinder
Followed the trouble shooting flowchart from the service manual, which diagnosis only 3 electrical parts in this order: timer base, power pack and coil.
The first test requires finding greater than 0.2 volts when cranking the engine on the output pins from the timer base. The pin to the top starboard cylinder had no volts. All other cylinders had 0.5 max volts when cranking.
Easy fix: I replaced the timer base and the power pack. I’ve read bad power packs can affect the timer base. Put it back together, still no spark on the cylinder. I also swapped the coil and spark plug wire with another cylinder. Still no spark. All other cylinders are giving good spark.
Stator looks good - no hot spots or melting and putting out good voltage.
Any help is appreciated.
