Help please. I bought an older Johnson 85 hp. 85esl75e.
During test run it started to overheat. Bought new water pump kit and thermostat. But when I removed the old impeller, I found the shaft key was a wedge style while the new kit key is a woodruff style. Parts manuals all show the OEM to be the woodruff style. So maybe someone changed the driveshaft at some point? I took a stab ond bought a wedge style impeller for a different year and assembled, but it didn't work. Hate to give up on the motor, it seems well built and easy to work on. Anyone know if a different year drive shaft with the wedge style key could have been put into this model?
