How to securely attach fuel lines to plastic T-connectors

Hi, I am new to the forum and have found some really useful information already. However, I could not find anything related to my problem. On my 1985 70hp Evinrude VRO motor that I have had since 1985! The fuel line between the carbs and the fuel pump have a couple plastic T-connectors secured with zip ties. I had a busted T-connector and replaced it and the fuel line but am unable to tighten the fuel line enough to the fitting with the zip ties to keep it from leaking. I could use some suggestions on how to accomplish this task. My next attempt may be to use ear clamps. Would they work? Without measuring, I am estimating the lines are probably 5/16'' so not much diameter to work.
 
The small fuel lines on the T fittings are a 3/16" ID I think and often do not leak when installed without a clamp.---Cut the old hose from pump to carburetor as it may well be 1/4" ID.
 
Thanks for the response. I will check that out this weekend. I may have also used an incorrect size T-connector since I was unable to acquire OMC parts. I had to find a suitable replacement at an auto parts store.
 
Not sure how to help you if you are not using factory fittings.------Factory fittings are available but cost more coins than aftermarket stuff.------" Bitterness of poor quality is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten "---Is a term I remember.
 
I get that. It wasn't for not trying. At the time I couldn't find anyone who could get the parts for me. As I did not have specific part numbers. I would gladly order OEM parts if I could.
 
Top of this page is a box with -----engine diagrams------You find the part # there and put the bits in your shopping cart.
 
Do not use automotive tees as most are not for fuel and will melt. Most are for vacuum or window washer use.

It has been my experience through the years that if a fuel line leaks "even without the zip ties" on one of those plastic fittings (unless the fitting is flawed)... the fuel line is either the wrong size or it is worn out.
 
Thanks all, for your input. The weather did not cooperate with me this past weekend. Will try again next weekend. I will replace the fitting with a correct part and inspect the fuel line on the failing connection. Once I get everything matched up and if I still have a leak, I will order one of those zip tie guns
 
You might also think about using a fuel hose zip tie. I had never seen them until I was at my local shop and the mechanic showed me. They are curved on the zip head so it doesn’t pinch the hose. He told me since he started using them he hasn’t had any issues with leaking connections.
