How to figure out what size propeller i need?

Ok my 2002 stingray 190ls i want to replace my propeller. The current one is chipped and missing parts. How can i tell which type i need and good for speed and stability?
 
Before you buy another one.... with this prop does your engine reach a wide open throttle RPM within the range specified for your engine with full tanks and normal load in calm water? This rpm range often marked on the decal on the top of the flame arrestor on MERES.
 
If you are happy with the performance just get another of the same thing. I would say if you can afford to go stainless that u pop for it. Stainless props far more durable and if you whack it they can be repaired more easily. Also perform a bit better due to the metallurgy...the blade profile is not as fat as with aluminum.
 
In order to prevent over-burdening your engine, your prop selection must allow for the OEM specified WOT RPM.
This means that the hull must be clean, engine in full tune, drive reduction correct, boat loaded as you normally would while performing the WOT RPM Test!


I love SS props..... however, if you encounter an impact with a SS prop, the risk of prop shaft damage and even gear damage increases!
 
@cubajorge2008 they probably tested the WOT at the time they were developing this boat. They chose this combination of engine, drive gear ratio and prop based on the desire to provide the widest performance possible. You can take the boat to a propeller shop and they will test the boat with a variety of props to see which one is best for your needs. This is highly recommended if you want to tune for, say, hole shot rather than top speed. Propeller design is a black art. You can't just put one randomly on the boat and say it will do what you want. As Rick says above, the correct prop will give you certain wide open throttle engine RPM that will prevent damage to the engine from over revving along with giving the best top speed performance. If you are truly picky about how the boat performs, then you gotta go to the pros. Otherwise, just get the same thing as before.
