i have a honda BF90D 2008 it says to use 10w30 oil with a rating SG or later. I am having a hard tome finding marine oil, can i use regular car oil, or maybe synthetic oil. the owners manual says to use 4-stroke automotive oil, but people have said to use marine oil. i do use it in salt water and fresh water. thanks in advance.

10w30 SG or higher auto oil is fine as long as you religiously change your oil every 100 hours or every season, whichever comes first. In my opinion synthetic is a waste of money unless you are operating in very special circumstances, such as very cold weather or very high speeds.

Following what the manual says and you will be fine. Just be sure to change it every 100 hours....even more regularly if used commercially or heavy use. The latest grade that Honda uses at this time is FC-W. Several Marine Manufactures bottle it. Honda, Quicksilver/Mercury, Yamaha, and Sierra. If you have an O Reily's auto parts store nearby, they sell Sierra products.

One thing....do not use synthetic oil. The Hondas are not designed to use synthetic oil.

Just do not use cheap, no name brand oil. It is better than dirty oil it will not help the life of the engine.
